Player of the Day: Daniel Descalso

Memphis' playoff opponent will be Sacramento and Daniel Descalso started for Team USA in Saturday's win over China.

USA (2-1) Beat China 8-0

 

Daniel Descalso started at second base and batted ninth.  1-for-2 with one RBI, one run, one hit by pitch, one stolen base, and one strikeout.

 

Royals' prospect Trevor Reckling struck out a USA Baseball World Cup Record 11 batters.

Pacific Coast League Playoffs

 

Sacramento topped Tacoma 13-8, taking the series 3-1.

 

Brett Wallace 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBIs, one run, and one walk.

 

The first game of the Championship Series is set for Tuesday at Memphis. (full schedule at The Cardinal Nation blog)

 

In game one, Memphis will face off against another former team member in Chris Gissell (2005), who was signed back by the Athletics organization late in August.  He was pitching in the Chinese Professional League earlier in the 2009 season after being a member of Sacramento's 2008 staff.

 

 

Winter Ball News

 

Yadel Marti, who defected from Cuba this summer, has signed on to pitch with Tigres del Licey this winter in the Dominican League.  The team features fellow Cuban and St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Amaury Cazana. Yadel, a 29-year old right-hander, is currently a free agent and looking to showcase his talents so he can sign with a MLB club before the 2010 season.
