Andrew McCutchen wins Gold Glove

Major League Baseball and Rawlings announced that Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been named to the 2012 National League Gold Glove team. It is the first time McCutchen has won the award.

The 26-year-old McCutchen, who finished the season with a 135-game errorless streak, led all National League outfielders in fielding percentage (.997), making just one error (a throwing miscue on April 29 at Atlanta) in 371 total chances. He ranked second among all N.L. outfielders, and led center fielders, in starts (156) and innings played (1364.0) while ranking third in total chances.

"It's a tremendous honor to win an award like this," said McCutchen. "To look and see your name with guys like Roberto Clemente, Andy Van Slyke and Bill Mazeroski, it's pretty special."

McCutchen is Pittsburgh's first everyday center fielder to receive a Gold Glove award since Nate McLouth in 2008 and the seventh outfielder overall, joining Roberto Clemente (1961-1972), Bill Virdon (1962), Dave Parker (1977- 79), Andy Van Slyke (1988-1992), Barry Bonds (1990-92) and McLouth.

McCutchen beat out the Atlanta Braves' Michael Bourn and the Cincinnati Reds' Drew Stubbs, the other two finalists.
