Cards add three international July 2nd bats

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed three international free agents from Latin America. All are position players.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms with three free agents from Latin America. July 2nd marks the first day that teams are allowed to sign players not subject to last month's MLB First-Year Player Draft. All of the agreements announced by the Cardinals are subject to the players passing a physical and MLB background checks.

The following players agreed to terms with the Cardinals on the first date of eligibility:

Luis Bandes, OF, R/R, 6-1, 200 lbs.; Born: May 15, 1996 (Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela)
Joshua Lopez, C, R/R, 5-10, 188; Born: March 4, 1996 (Valencia, Venezuela)
Edmundo Sosa, SS, R/R, 5-11, 170; Born: March 6, 1996 (Panama City, Panama)

According to Cardinals scouts, Bandes is the most advanced bat of the three players with power potential that projects him as a middle of the lineup bat. Lopez is considered a good two-way player who receives the ball well and hits the ball to all fields. Sosa projects as one of the few pure shortstops in this year's international class.

Cardinals' Director of International Operations Moises Rodriguez indicated that all three players would be assigned to the team's academy in the Dominican Republic.
