In my most recent weekly "Farm Report" column at FOXSportsMidwest.com, "Cards appear to address many needs in the draft", I did just that. With the assistance of Scout.com national baseball expert Frankie Piliere, I looked at the Cardinals draft class of 2011 from multiple angles.
In addition to analyzing the pedigrees of several of the top prospects, we discussed the team's approach of taking a number of lesser-known high school players and ones from smaller colleges.
The factors behind key positional needs such as middle infield and left-handed pitching are highlighted and analyzed. The numbers behind the selections by position and high school versus college are contrasted by year.
For those most interested in the bottom line, Piliere provides his immediate assessment of the strength of the Cardinals draft class and how it stacks up against the other 29 major league organizations.
There is much more, so please check out "The Farm Report" this and every Thursday at the website of the television home of the St. Louis Cardinals, FOXSportsMidwest.com.
Bonus for The Cardinal Nation subscribers: Check back here as the audio of my entire nearly 20-minute discussion with Piliere will be posted exclusively for subscribers within the next 48 hours.
