Carroll Leaves Cardinals for Atlanta

St. Louis Cardinals Manager of Professional Scouting Matt Carroll has been hired by the Atlanta Braves.

Matt Carroll, St. Louis Cardinals manager of professional scouting, has been hired away by the Atlanta Braves to become special assistant to general manager Frank Wren, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. According to the report, former Cardinals farm director Bruce Manno, now Braves assistant GM, was key in recruiting the 29-year-old Carroll.

Since having joined the Cardinals as coordinator of minor league operations in January 2006, Carroll was a fast riser. He was baseball operations coordinator in 2007 and added professional scouting duties in 2008.

In February 2010, Carroll was promoted to manager of professional scouting. In that role, he oversaw all aspects of the coordination of the team's pro scouts as well as responsibility for scouting two Major League organizations.

This September 16, the Cardinals had given Carroll area scouting responsibilities for the St. Louis region and also added an assist role with the amateur scouting department.

The Philadelphia native is a graduate of Penn State University, where he pitched for four years on their baseball team after transferring from University of Maryland. He was a communications major with a minor in business. Carroll interned in the Philadelphia Phillies baseball administration department in 2004 and was team captain for the Nittany Lions in 2005.
