Became a Cardinal
Contract purchased from Saltilla of the Mexican League on April 5, 2007.
2008 Season
The Texas League All-Star burst on the scene in 2008, racking up a league high 25 saves for the Springfield Cardinals, while posting a record of 7-3 with a 3.65 ERA, in 60 games, 74 innings pitched. Fernando was one of seven pitchers in all of minors to make 60 or more appearances (J. Motte had 63). Salas walked only 16 batters in 74.0 IP. His numbers after the All-Star Break generate a little concern, dispite going 4-2 with 13 saves, opponents did hit .280 off of him in the second half and his ERA ballooned to 5.17 after a very good 2.53 ERA in the first half of the 2008 campaign.
2007 Season
Appeared in 16 games for the Palm Beach Cardinals, including four starts, finishing with a 2-3 record and a 5.26 ERA.
2006 Season
Salas went 8-2 with a 3.02 ERA for Saltilla before going 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 26 appearances for Mazatlan in the winter leagues.
