Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 49th round (1463rd overall) of the 2008 First Year Player Draft, out of St. Petersburg, Florida, Junior College.
2008 Season
After the draft, Veres spent his professional debut split between the tandem starting rotations
in Johnson City (Appy) and Batavia (NY-P). His overall numbers featured a 3-3 record with a
3.32 ERA, 58 strikeouts and 14 walks over 43.1 innings of work. He went 2-2 with a 2.38 ERA and a
32-7 K/BB ratio over 22.2 innings (8G, 3GS) for Johnson City before finishing the year on the
Muckdogs championship squad by going 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA and a 26-7 K/BB ratio in 20.2 innings
(6G, 3GS).
