Selected in the seventh round (232nd overall) of the June, 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $100,000 signing bonus and $20,000 for school.
2008 Season
Hooker was promoted to Quad Cities from the Johnson City Cardinals on August 12, skipping the New York-Penn League to fill the spot in the River Bandits rotation vacated by the promotion of Nick Additon.
He began the year at Extended Spring Training before starting the season with the Johnson City Cardinals. As part of the tandem starting rotation, he went 1-1 with a save and a 3.38 ERA in 11 outings (eight starts). Hooker racked up 55 strikeouts over 42.2 innigns of work, while walking just 14.
He finished the 08 campaign with a combined record of 1-2 with a save and a 2.77 ERA in 15 games, including 12 starts. Hooker had some bad breaks with Quad Cities, in four games, he ended up with an 0-1 record despite a 1.61 ERA.
Career Notes
Hooker made his pro debut in 2007 in the Gulf Coast League. In 10 outings (three starts), he went 1-1 with a 2.32 ERA, 47 strikeouts, 11 walks, and 28 hits allowed in 31 innings of work.
