Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first compensation round (39th overall) of the 2008 First Year Player Draft, out of the University of Mississippi.
2008 Season
Lynn left his start on August 6 against the Cedar Rapids club, after three innings and after missing two turns in the rotation because of a forearm injury and was placed on the DL on 08/14. He returned home to Indiana for rest and later reported to the Instruction League. Lynn began the season with Batavia, appearing in six games, including making four starts in the Muckdogs piggyback rotation, posting a record of 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA. The big right-hander was dominant in the NYPL, striking out 22 while walking just four over 18.2 innings of work, allowing 12 hits and just two earned runs.
Lynn finished the season with Quad Cities, where he went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA, after two starts.
Career Notes
Lynn was previously a sixth-round draft pick by the Seattle Mariners in 2005, but declined to sign and elected to attend Ole Miss instead.
Lynn had a very successful three-year stint with Old Miss, posting a career 22-12 record with a 3.95 ERA and 332 strikeouts to leave as the school's all-time record holder of single-season (146 in 2007) and career strikeouts, while finishing tied for fifth in career wins.
