Became a Cardinal
Selected in the third round (110th overall) of the June, 2005 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $450,000 signing bonus.
2008 Season
The 21-year-old outfielder combined for a .316 batting average with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs, between Palm Beach and the Springfield Cardinals. With the Double-A Cardinals in a pennant race in August, Jones hit .319 in 29 games with five home runs, four doubles, five stolen bases and 12 RBIs down the stretch. The Cardinals Minor League Position Player of the Year, could also be considered the Comeback Player of the Year, considering in 2007 he hit a line of, .217/.304/.296 (BA/OBP/SLG), compared to a line of .316/.407/.483, in 2008. Pretty impressive gains, now if only our stocks can rebound in similiar fashion, as Jones' stock continues to rebound.
2007 Season
In 2007 Jones was selected again as the fastest baserunner in “Best Tools” survey of the Cardinals minor league system
by Baseball America. Jones hit just .217 in 127 games for Quad Cities but still managed to steal 22 bases.
2006 Season
A Hamstring injury delayed the start of his season, but he joined Rookie-level Johnson City in June and hit .265 with a .367 OBP in 20 games before being promoted to low Class A Quad Cities. He hit .235 in 26 games for the Swing.
Career Notes
In 61 games for Rookie-level Johnson City in 2005, Jones hit .209/.311/.286, stealing 10 bases in 14 attempts. Considered one of the best athletes in the Cardinals farm system.
