Became a Cardinal
Selected in the supplemental first round (36th overall) of the June, 2007 First-Year Player Draft as compensation for the Brewers' signing of free agent Jeff Suppan. Received a $650,000 signing bonus.

2008 Season
Mortensen split playing time between Springfield and Memphis posting a combined record of 8-10 with a 4.96 ERA, which may not seem impressive on the surface, but Clayton is pitching in Memphis in only his second professional season. The Cardinals are very high on the kid from Gonzaga and he's been ranked as a Top 10 prospect by the Birdhouse.

2007 Season
Impressed in his initial professional season, earning a promotion from short-season Batavia to Single-A Quad Cities. Finished the season with a combined record of 1-3 with a 2.67 ERA in 60 games, 60.2 innings pitched.
