| DeJohn begins his fourth season as the manager for St. Louis’ short-season entry in the New
York-Penn League. He led the Cardinals Double-A affiliate to the playoffs from 2002-2004, the last
two years with Tennessee and in 2002 with New Haven. Prior to becoming a minor league manager,
DeJohn had served as a coach at the Major League level from 1996-2001. He was the organization’s
minor league field coordinator for three seasons and managed in the Cardinals’ farm system from
1986 to 1991. He also managed and coached in Detroit’s and Kansas City’s minor league
organizations.
DeJohn was drafted by the New York Mets in 1971 and played in their system through the 1977 season. He signed with
the Detroit Tigers in 1978 and reached the major leagues with the Tigers in 1982. DeJohn made the transition from player
to coach in 1983, serving as a minor league instructor for the Tigers. He then coached at Kansas City’s Eugene affiliate in
1985, but returned to Detroit midway through the season to manage the Tigers’ Birmingham club.
DeJohn joined the Cardinals’ organization in 1986, managing the Savannah Cardinals to a 75-60 record. He spent two
seasons in Savannah before taking the helm of the Midwest League’s Springfield Cardinals in 1988. The next year he was
named manager of Johnson City where he spent two seasons. DeJohn managed Detroit’s Class AA London affiliate in 1992
before returning to the Cardinals’ organization in 1993.
DeJohn, 54, attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, Conn. He has two children, Timothy and Stephanie,
and resides in New Britain, Conn.
