Selected in the 22nd round (676th overall) of the June, 2006 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $150,000 signing bonus. Converted from catching to pitching in June, 2008.

2008 Season
The 2008 season was more than a transition season for the St. Louis Cardinals, it was one for Casey, who began his transformation from being a catcher to being a pitcher. he appeared in three games for the GCL Cardinals, posting a record of 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, giving up just one hit in three innings of relief.
