Selected in the 18th round (556th overall) of the June, 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
2008 Season The legend lives on with the 34 year old prospect splitting playing time in 08 with the Mexican League (52 games) and the Memphis Redbirds (28 games). He hit .266/.300/.426 (BA/OPB/SLG) for the Redbirds with three home runs and 12 RBIs, after hitting .420/.493/.617 in the Mexican League. Marti will probably begin the 09 campaign with the Memphis Redbirds, if the Cardinals keep him in the organization.
2007 Season
Marti spent 75% of the 2007 season playing in the Mexican League. In 96 games, he hit .337 with 15 HRs and 71 RBI before being called back to the states to play for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals in their final 30 games of the season. Marti continued to hit well in Springfield, hitting .308 with 6 HRs and 20 RBI.
Marti played for the Mesa Solar Sox in the AFL after the regular season. Marti hit just .220 in 13 and 41 plate appearances.
Career Notes
Marti was initially sent to high Class A Palm Beach after being drafted in 2006. He was promoted to Double-A Springfield in July after hitting .282/.351/.494 with four home runs in 20 games. He hit .227 with six home runs in 40 games for Springfield.
Following the season, Marti was chosen by the Cardinals to participate in the Arizona Fall League. He hit .345/.378/.571 with four home runs in 21 games for the Peoria Saguaros.
MISC
Marti emigrated to the United States from Cuba in April, 2005, after playing there since 1997. His actual age may be four years older than reported.
Full name is Amaury Antonio Casanas Marti, and you will find his name "Cazana" on his uniform in the states. Figuring out his real name is as confusing as figuring out his real age.
