2008 Season
Wellemeyer made 32 starts for the Cardinals posting a record of 13-9 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Nine out of the last 12 starts made by Wellemeyer were quality starts.
2007 Season
Wellemeyer appeared in 20 games with St. Louis, including 11 as a starter, and finished with 3-2 record and a 3.11 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.
Career Notes
Wellemeyer never topped 80 innings in a season before, pitched 191.7 innings in 2008.
After going 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA in 18 games for the Florida Marlins, Wellemeyer was claimed off waivers by the Royals on June 9, 2006. He posted a 3.63 ERA in 28 appearances for Kansas City, holding lefties to a .198 average while righties hit .265 against him. He led all Royals relievers with 57 innings pitched from June 9 to the end of the season.
A fourth round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs in 2000, Wellemeyer reached the majors in 2003 and spent time with the Cubs in each of the following two seasons as well. Just prior to the 2006 season, the Cubs dealt him to the Florida Marlins for two minor leaguers (Lincoln Holdzkom & Zach McCormack). Entering the 2007 season, Wellemeyer has a 5.20 ERA in 103 major league games, and has struck out 146 compared to 111 walks in 162.2 innings pitched.
