2008 Season
Kinney had to endure a extended recovery period after recovering from two 2007 elbow surgeries, before being recalled from a minor league rehab assignment when rosters were expanded on September 1. He managed to pitch seven innings in seven appearances, without giving up an earned run. The Cardinals expect him to be 100% by the start of the 2009 season.
2007 Season
Kinney (elbow) missed the entire season recovering from Tommy John surgery in March.
2006 Season
Kinney, who began the season with Triple-A Memphis, had his contract purchased by the Cardinals on July 2. Sent back down on August 1, Kinney returned as a September call-up. In 10 September appearances, Kinney posted a 1.59 ERA and opponents hit .154 against him. He had a 1.52 ERA in 51 appearances for Memphis, allowing 46 hits, striking out 76 and walking 29 in 71 innings with opponents hitting .186 against him.
Kinney became a integral part of the bullpen in the post-season, going unscored upon in seven appearances.
Career Notes
Prior to the 2004 season, Kinney had his shoulder scoped to clean up some scar tissue. In six minor league seasons, he has a 2.77 ERA in 303 appearances, striking out 386 and walking 167 in 406.1 innings pitched.
