Current Contract
Signed a one-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals on March 4, 2008. On the club's 40-Man Roster.
2007: $395,000
Became a Cardinal
Selected in the 34th round (1,013th overall) of the June, 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
2008 Season
Athroscopic surgery on his left shoulder in May ended what was suppose to be a comeback season. Johnson suffered from left shoulder capsulitis that keep him out of action from the early days of spring training. There was some concern about his off-season condition prior to the 2008 campaign, he'll need to impress somebody to get another contract with the Cardinals in 2009.
2007 Season
Johnson was 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.16 WHIP when he was place on the DL in July with tendinitis in his left biceps and shoulder region. The lefty-specialist last pitched on June 18th and was activated off the DL on August 6th. He finished the season with St. Louis with a 1-1 record and a 4.03 ERA, appearing in 55 games, pitching 38 innings.
Career Notes
After being recalled from Memphis on May 9, Johnson spent the rest of the season in the Majors. He appeared in 56 games, posting a 4.95 ERA, allowing 33 hits, striking out 37 and walking 23 in 36.1 innings. He held left-handers to a .227 average.
Johnson was a key-member of the bullpen in the post-season. He made 10 appearances, allowing just one run (1.23 ERA) on four hits while striking out 12 and walking two in 7.1 innings.
A 34th round draft pick in 2000, Johnson led the organization with 15 wins as a starter in 2002, his first full season, but was moved to the bullpen in 2003. He was selected by the Oakland A's in the major league phase of the December, 2004 Rule-5 draft but was returned on March 22, 2005. The Cardinals called him up in September that year, and he made five appearances, not allowing a run in 2-2/3 innings.
