Became a Cardinal
Selected in the 20th round (620th overall) of the June, 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
2007 Season
Garceau spent the entire 2007 season in the Quad Cities, going 8-11 with a
4.86 ERA in 30 appearances (21 starts). In many ways he showed himself to be a
typical young power pitcher, at times blowing batters away with a strong fastballcurveball
combination and at times being very hittable. Garceau is a hard-thrower
with a good curveball that struck out 110 batters over 111 innings while playing most
of the year as a 19-year-old in full-season ball. He also gave up 130 hits and a staffhigh
15 home runs, however, as opponents hit .293 against him.
2006 Season
Garceau missed the entire season due a thigh infection; a combination of a muscle tear/burst artery in his right quadricep. The latter is allegedly the primary problem, as it caused leakage that was hard to drain, causing infection and other complications. He underwent two surgeries in June.
Career Notes
In 2005, Garceau started 12 games for Rookie-level Johnson City, going 2-7 with a 7.66 ERA, allowing 55 hits, striking out 42 and walking 23 in 44-2/3 innings.
