2008 Season
McCormick still has a problem trying to get a full season under his belt. Once again a sore shoulder landed him on the DL twice in 2008, including for the last time on August 29th. Mark was limited to just 19 games, 14 starts on the season, posting a record of 0-3 with a 4.31 ERA. The Cardinals are hoping McCormick will be healthy to start the 2009 season and may work out of the bullpen initially.
2007 Season
Making a comeback after coming off of shoulder surgery, McCormick pitched in four games in 07, making three starts for the GCL Cardinals and one start for the Palm Beach Cardinals, pitching a total of only 7.2 innings combined.
2006 Season
McCormick began the season with low Class A Quad Cities and made 10 starts before going on the disabled list on June 2 with a bone bruise in his right shoulder. He came off the disabled list and made one more start for the Swing before being going back on the DL due to shoulder inflammation on July 20. He was finally activated in late August and promoted to Palm Beach where he made two starts and posted an ERA of 11.25. In 11 starts for the Swing, he posted a 3.78 ERA, allowing 38 hits, striking out 63 and walking 38 in 52.1 innings. Following the season, He underwent shoulder surgery.
Career Notes
In 2005, McCormick made two starts for short-season Class A New Jersey, allowing no runs and only one hit while striking out 10 and walking three in six innings before being promoted to low Class A Quad Cities on July 19. He made nine starts for the Swing, going 1-2 with a 5.48 ERA, allowing 41 hits, striking out 45 and walking 28 in 42.2 innings.
MISC
Represented by Scott Boras, McCormick sought a $2 million signing bonus out of high school in 2002. The Cubs offered to select him in the second round and give him $1.4 million, but he declined and fell to the Orioles in the 11th round. He turned down their offer of $1.2 million, opting instead to attend Baylor.
