Selected in the first round (28th overall) of the June, 2005 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $1,000,000 signing bonus.
2007 Season
Played the entire season with Double-A Springfield, hitting .275 with 29 HRs and 72 RBI. The Cardinals' Top Prospect will be given a chance to start the 2008 season as the Cardinals center fielder.
Career Notes
Rasmus began the 2006 season with low Class A Quad Cities, hitting .310/.373/.512 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 78 games. On July 3, he was promoted to high Class A Palm Beach where he hit .254/.351/.404 with 5 home runs and 35 RBI. Combined, he stole 28 bases in 36 attempts. Following the season, he was named Player of the Year by both the Birdhouse and the Cardinals.
In 62 games for Rookie-level Johnson City in 2005, Rasmus hit .296/.362/.514 with seven home runs and 27 RBI, stealing 13 bases in 16 attempts.
