Selected in the second round (65th overall) of the June, 2003 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $570,000 signing bonus.
2006 Season:
Pomeranz went 7-4 with a 4.39 ERA in 18 starts for Double-A Springfield in 2006. He allowed 107 hits, walked 30, struck out 64 and opponents hit .282 against him in 98.1 innings. He was placed on the disabled list on July 1 and missed six weeks with a left oblique strain. He came back in mid August but was then shut down for the season after experiencing tendonitis in his pitching shoulder on Aug. 18.
Following the season, Pomeranz made six starts for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. He posted an ERA of 9.00 in six starts.
Career Notes:
After beginning his career at Rookie-level Johnson City in 2003, Pomeranz led the organization with 12 wins in 2004 for low Class A Peoria, despite spending most of the first half of the season in extended spring training.
He began the 2005 season with high Class A Palm Beach, making eight starts and going 2-5 with a 3.35 ERA, allowing 56 hits, striking out 29 and walking 10 in 48.1 innings. He was promoted to Double-A Springfield on May 23, where he would make 18 starts and go 5-6 with a 5.29 ERA, allowing 110 hits, striking out 66 and walking 40 in 98.2 innings.

He pitched alongside Matt Cain (Giants) in high school and remains good friends with him.
