Acquired from the Detroit Tigers for a player to be named later (pitcher Chris Lambert) on June 22, 2007.
2006 Season:
Maroth was limited to just 13 appearances for the Tigers in 2006 due to a left elbow injury. He went on the disabled list on May 26 and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow for the removal of bone chips on June 2, a procedure performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum in California. After making four rehab starts for Triple-A Toledo and winning all three of his decisions, Maroth was activated from the disabled list on September 6. He finished the season making four appearances out of the bullpen, the first relief outings of his major league career. Overall, he was 5-2 with a 4.19 ERA in 53.2 innings.
Career Notes:
A third round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 1998, Maroth was traded to Detroit for Bryce Florie in July 1999. In 2003, his second season in the major leagues, Maroth led the majors with 21 losses, becoming the first major league pitcher since 1980 to lose 20 games. Maroth has appeared in 147 career games (143 starts) over his six-year Major League career and owns a 50-62 record and lifetime 4.81 ERA. He was one of only 13 southpaw hurlers in Tigers history to record 50 wins.
