Recovering from Tommy John Surgery, McClellan spent most of the season on the Quad Cities disabled list, but was activated in August and sent to Rookie-level Johnson City on a rehab assignment. He posted a 9.45 ERA in three appearances before realizing things were not completely right. Later that month, he underwent another operation on his right elbow, this time to move his ulnar nerve.
Career Notes:
After being drafted in the 25th round, McClellan debuted with the Rookie-level Johnson City Cardinals in 2002. In 2004, he spent about one month on the disabled list with a right forearm injury. He spent the 2005 season with low Class A Quad Cities. He tore a ligament in his elbow in a spot start on July 1 and had Tommy John surgery performed by Cardinals’ team doctor George Paletta on July 22. He was moved to the bullpen in early May after he struggled in the rotation. McClellan has a 5.27 ERA in 63 games since being drafted.
