Selected in the first round (19th overall) of the June, 2004 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $1,525,000 signing bonus.
2006 Season:
Lambert went 10-9 with a 5.30 ERA in 23 starts, allowing 126 hits, walking 63 and striking out 113 in 120.2 innings pitched for Double-A Springfield. He made a spot-start for Triple-A Memphis in July, allowing three runs in four innings and picking up the loss. He went on the disabled list on August 12 with a pulled muscle in his right arm and missed the remainder of the season.
Career Notes:
In 2004, Lambert made nine starts for low Class A Peoria and had a 2.58 ERA, striking out 46 in 38-1/3 innings. He split the 2005 season between Palm Beach and Springfield, and represented the Cardinals in the All-Star Futures Game in Detroit. For Palm Beach, he was 7-1 with a 2.63 ERA, but after being promoted to Springfield, he was 3-8 with a 6.35 ERA and 48 walks in 85 innings. Following the season, he pitched in the Arizona Fall League and was selected to pitch for Team USA in the Olympic qualifying tournament. He made one start, pitching five innings in a 23-0 win against Guatemala. He allowed one hit and didn't walk a batter, striking out nine.
