2006 Season:
Cate joined high Class A Palm Beach on May 8, after serving his suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2005. He posted a 1.54 ERA, allowing 19 hits, striking out 58 and walking 13 in 41 innings before being promoted to Double-A Springfield on August 12. While there he posted a 0.57 ERA, allowing five hits, striking out 20 and walking six in 15.2 innings. Combined, he posted a 1.27 ERA and opponents hit .127 against him.
Career Notes:
Following high school, Cate went on a two-year Mormon mission and then attended Ricks Junior College before being drafted in the sixth round by the Seattle Mariners in 2002. Cate was switched from starting to relieving prior to 2005, but was released after being suspended for 15 games due to a negative test for banned performance-enhancing drugs. For his career, Cate has posted a 3.35 ERA, striking out 445 and walking 120 in 427.1 innings.
