2006 Season:
Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Houston Astros that included a three-year option worth $24 million. However, he ended up being released in August after hitting .269 with nine home runs in 102 games. He hit .243 down the stretch with eight home runs and 17 RBI in 32 games for the Cardinals, finishing with a combined 17 home runs and 72 RBI in 134 games. He enjoyed his first taste of postseason action, appearing in 13 postseason games. Wilson appeared in all five World Series games and had the game-winning RBI in Game Five of the National League Championship Series with a double that scored David Eckstein.

Career Notes:
A first round draft pick of the New York Mets in 1992, Wilson made it to the major leagues in 1998, but was part of the trade that brought Mike Piazza to the Marlins in May, 1998. In 2002 he was traded along with Vic Darensbourg, Charles Johnson, and Pablo Ozuna to the Colorado Rockies for Juan Pierre, Mike Hampton, and cash.

Wilson was a 2003 National League All-Star and led the league with 141 RBI that season while with Colorado. Playing for the Florida Marlins in 2000, Wilson recorded his only 30-30 season with 31 home runs and 36 stolen bases, and had six seasons with 25 or more home runs.

In 2005, Wilson hit 25 home runs and drove in 90 runs, splitting the season with Colorado and Washington. He began the season with the Rockies but was traded to the Nationals on July 13 for Zach Day, J.J. Davis, and cash.

MISC:
Wilson is both the nephew and stepson of former New York Mets star Mookie Wilson. (Mookie married Preston's mother after his brother fathered Preston.)
