| 1B Derrek Lee entered the final year of his contract coming off his best season ever (.335 with 46 homers and 107 RBI) as the defending National League Batting Champion. His RBI total figured to go up with an improved top of the lineup, but the Cubs first baseman suffered two broken bones in his right wrist after a collision with Dodgers INF Rafael Furcal on Wednesday, April 19. Lee signed a five-year, $65 million contract extension in early April, 2006. |
