Selected in the fifth round (164th overall) of the June, 2001 First-Year Player Draft. Received a $155,000 signing bonus.
2006 Season:
Schumaker hit .306/.348/.382 in 95 games for Triple-A Memphis. In two stints in the majors, he hit .185 in 28 games. In August, Schumaker was named to the U.S. Olympic Qualifying Team. He finished the tournament hitting .405 (15-for-37) with six walks and 15 runs scored.
Career Notes:
A fifth round draft pick in 2001, Schumaker was limited to just 91 games in 2003 due to a right wrist injury and a stress fracture in his right fibula. He made his major league debut on June 8, 2005, and had three stints with the major league club that season. Following the 2005 season, on Oct. 21, he had minor surgery on his right knee to repair a bursa sac. Including 2006, Schumaker has hit .205 in 78 major league at-bats. He is a .289 career hitter in six minor league seasons.
