2005 Season:
Signed by the Florida Marlins prior to the season, Smith began the season with Triple-A Albuquerque. The Marlins recalled him on April 21, and he made four appearances before being sent back down on May 21. On May 28, he was called back up, but was sent down on June 25. He was called up for a final time on July 19 and sent back down on July 23. In a total of 12 games for the Marlins, Smith posted a 6.75 ERA while walking five, fanning nine and allowing one home run. At Albuquerque, he went 7-8 with a 4.08 ERA, allowing 107 hits, striking out 73 and walking 31 in 103-2/3 innings with 17 of his 18 appearances being starts.
Career Notes:
A 19th round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1995, Smith spent six seasons in the Brewers system, appearing in only one major league game. He spent the 2001 season in the Houston organization, before being picked up by the Cardinals prior to the 2002 season. Smith began the 2002 season with Triple-A Memphis, before having his contract purchased by the Cardinals on April 15. He appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals, covering two different stints in the majors, 10 of which were starts. He posted a 7.17 ERA in 54 innings. The Cardinals designated him for assignment on August 1. He spent the 2003 season in Korea. He made 16 apperances for the Braves in 2004. He is 89-53 with a 3.66 ERA in 216 career minor league games.
