2005 Season:
Spivey began the season with the Milwaukee Brewers as the opening day second baseman. He played in 49 games before being traded to the Washington Nationals for RHP Tomo Ohka on June 10. On July 9, Spivey suffered a right radius fracture when a batted ball richocheted off the pitchers screen in the batting cage. He underwent surgery, performed by Dr. Sheridan in Florida, on July 13, and missed 63 games before returning on September 17. In 49 games with Milwaukee, he hit .236/.308/.374 with five home runs and 17 RBI. He also played in 28 games with Washington, hitting .221/.330/.390 in 77 at bats.
2005 Season:
Spivey was orginally drafted by the Cardinals out of high school in the 28th round of the 1995 draft but did not sign. The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted him in the 36th round of the 1996 draft and he did sign. He would not reach the major leagues until 2001, but was named to the National League All-Star team in 2002 when he hit .301 with 16 home runs and 76 RBI. On December 1, 2003, the Diamondbacks traded Spivey along with Chris Capuano, Craig Counsell, Chad Moeller, Lyle Overbay, and Jorge de la Rosa to the Milwaukee Brewers for Richie Sexson, Shane Nance and a player to be named later (Noochie Varner). In 2004, Spivey suffered a subluxation of the left shoulder on July 2, making a diving play. He missed the remainder of the season and underwent surgery on July 30, by Dr. Lewis Yocum, who placed three anchors in the labrum and debrided the sub-scaporlaris muscle, a part of the rotator cuff. In 457 career major league games, Spivey is a .270/.354/.436 hitter with 48 home runs and 201 RBI.
