Contract Details:
40-man Roster.
Became a Cardinal:
Acquired on June 9, 2005 as the player-to-be-named in the minor league trade that sent catcher Javier Cardona to the Cleveland organization.
2006 Season:
Rodriguez spent most of the season in the Major Leagues with the Cardinals, but was sent down to Memphis in early August to make room on the roster for Brad Thompson. He returned on September 1. For the season, he hit .301 with two home runs and a .374 OBP in 183 at-bats. He was included on the Cardinals post-season roster.
Career Notes:
Rodriguez was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1995 but did not sign, and in 1996 ended up signing with the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent. Following the 2004 season, Rodriguez signed with the Cleveland Indians organization and was dealt to the Cardinals in June, 2005, as part of a minor league trade that sent catcher Javier Cardona to Cleveland. In just 34 games for Triple-A Memphis following the trade, Rodriguez hit .342/.419/.808 with 17 home runs and 47 RBI, earning a promotion to St. Louis in July to replace the injured Reggie Sanders. He went on to hit .295/.382/.436 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI in 56 games with the Cardinals.
