Claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on August 8, 2005. Originally selected in the 2nd round of the June, 2000 First-Year Player Draft.
Career Highlights:
2004 - Spent most of the year with St. Louis' Double A affiliate in Tennessee before joining Colorado's Double A affiliate in Tulsa as one of the players to be named later in the Larry Walker trade (Aug. 6)...he made 27 combined starts between the two clubs, going 5-13 with a 4.02 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 147.2 innings...with Tennessee, Chris was 5-10 with a 4.16 ERA in 23 starts and then went 0-3 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts for Tulsa...he worked at least six innings in 12 of his 23 starting assignments...lost his first six decisions for the Smokies before notching his first win on June 8 at Carolina...pitched better as the year went on, compiling a 3-5 record with a 3.30 combined ERA in July and August (62.2 ip, 23 er)...at the time of the trade, Narveson had struckout 121 batters in 127.2 innings, both of which ranked among the top three in the Southern League...was acquired by Colorado on Aug. 11 and optioned to Tulsa...lost all three decisions for the Drillers despite never allowing more than 2 earned runs in any of his four starts.
2003 - Split the season between Class-A Palm Beach and Double-A Tennessee and was selected to pitch in the Florida State League All-Star Game....Was 7-7 with a 2.86 ERA in 14 starts (15 games) at Palm Beach. Struck out 65 batters while walking just 19....Started 10 games at Tennessee and went 4-3 with a 3.00 ERA...Finished the year second among Cardinals minor leaguers with 11 wins and was sixth in innings pitched (148.1) and strikeouts (99). His combined starter's ERA of 2.91 ranked eighth in the Cardinals' minor league system.
2002 - Underwent left elbow reconstructive surgury in the offseason and began a rehab assignement in June at Rookie-level Johnson City...threw six games at Johnson City before being reinstated from the DL and making nine starts at Peoria (A).
2001 - Split the year between Peoria (A) and Potomac (A)...had a 1.98 ERA in eight starts at Peoria before moving to Potomac where he gathered a 4-3 record (2.57 ERA) in 11 starts...finished second among all Cardinals minor league starting pitchers with a 2.31 ERA for the year.
2000 - Drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the June 2000 draft and signed on June 26...was assigned to Johnson City (R) where he started 12 games.
MISC:
Christopher Gregg Narveson...attended T.C. Roberson High School in Asheville, N.C., where he played baseball and basketball...his baseball team won the 3A State Championship his senior year of 2000 when he was named a second-team All-American, the Western N.C. Player of the Year and selected as the Gatorade Player of the Year for North Carolina...a two-time all-state pitcher, Chris was a combined 22-0 his junior and senior seasons...his basketball team finished second in the state in 1998.
