| BECAME A CARDINAL: The 25-year-old outfielder Derry Hammond has signed with the Cardinals after playing with Bangor of the independent Northeast League in 2004.
CAREER NOTES: In 2004, he batted .287 with 23 home runs and 66 RBI for the Lumberjacks, to lead the league. He also led the league in extra base hits (44), and finished second in slugging percentage (.610)
A former third-round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2001 draft, Hammond has 203 Midwest League games under his belt, and batted .249 with 36 home runs and 123 RBI while playing the 1999 and 2001 seasons with Beloit. In 538 minor league games in both affiliated and independent baseball, Hammond has 113 career home runs.
