| Biography: |
Manager Ken Macha enters his third season as the manager of the Oakland A's in 2005. He has won over 90 games in each of his first two seasons and has a 187-137 regular season record as a major league manager. The A's won 96 games during his first season as manager, which was the 10th highest number of wins for a rookie manager in Major League history.
Macha originally joined the A's organization during the 1999 season. He served as Manager Art Howe's bench coach from 1999-2002. Since Macha joined the A's coaching staff, Oakland has never posted a losing season.
Macha spent four seasons as a minor league manager for the Boston Red Sox and was named the International League Manager of the Year in 1998. He coached future stars Nomar Garciaparra, Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek while with Boston. He also spent time coaching in the Montreal Expos and California Angels organizations.
Macha was a utility player in the major leagues for six teams, logging time with his hometown team Pittsburgh, as well as Montreal and Toronto. He finished his major league career with a .258 BA and one career homerun and 35 RBIs. He went on to star in Japan from 1982-1985, as he slugged 82 homeruns over that span for the Chunichi Dragons.
