Batavia Muckdogs (SS) - Winners over Lowell 13-9
In a must win game, the Muckdogs found themselves in a very deep hole. Going into the bottom of the sixth, the team was trailing the Spinners, 8-2. But Batavia would force another game by scoring 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Batavia scored six runs in the sixth inning, four of the runs coming with two outs. The big blow of the inning was a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Edwin Gomez.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Muckdogs once again went to work with two outs. This time, however, all the teams’ runs were scored with two gone. Chris Swauger hit a bases clearing double to put the game away.
Arquimedes Nieto got the win by allowing one run in 2.2 innings of relief. Birthday boy Jason Buursma recorded the final out to pick up the save.
Swauger ended his night with two doubles and four RBIs. Shane Peterson collected three hits, drove in two runs, and scored two runs. Charlie Cutler reached base five times via four hits and a walk. Cutler scored three times and drove in one run. Defensively, Cutler allowed four stolen bases.
The winner of Wednesday’s game will face Jamestown in the finals.
