St. Louis Cardinals Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak announced Friday afternoon that right-handed pitcher Seth Blair, the Cardinals supplemental first round pick (46th player overall) in last month’s amateur draft, has agreed to terms and will report to the team’s Batavia, N.Y. affiliate in the New York-Penn League (A).
The 21-year-old Blair was a near perfect 12-1 in 18 starts this season at Arizona State University with a 3.64 ERA (43 ER/106 1/3 IP). He fanned 108 batters and issued just 29 walks, earning Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year honors.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Rock Falls, Ill. native was also named First Team All-Pac-10, Academic All-Pac-10 and Second Team Louisville Slugger All-American. Blair was named to the All-Tempe Regional Team after his seven-inning, eight strikeout performance against Hawaii. The junior set a career high with his 12 wins, which led the Pac-10.
