World Baseball Cup


Daniel Descalso (Memphis) did not play.


Former Memphis Redbird and current Chicago White Sox minor leaguer Miguel Negron went 0-for-3 for Puerto Rico.


USA Beat Puerto Rico 3-0

USA secured a spot in the World Cup Championship and will defend their 2007 title on Sunday.

USA faces Cuba on Thursday.



Curt Smith (Palm Beach) started in left field and batted fifth.  1-for-4 with one strikeout.


Australia Beat Netherlands 5-2

Netherlands faces Canada on Thursday.



Winter Ball News


Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican League sent an invite to D'Angelo Jimenez, who was released by Tigres del Licey a couple weeks ago.  The team also said former Springfield Cardinal Luis Perdomo is a candidate for the closer role: Link
