Daniel Descalso (Memphis) started at second base and batted ninth.  1-for-4 with one home run, one RBI, one run, and one error.

 

USA Beat Mexico 7-3 and advanced to third round.

Curt Smith (Palm Beach) started in left field and batted sixth.  2-for-4 with one double, one home run, one RBI, two runs, one hit by pitch, and one strikeout.

Notes:

Tony La Russa has decided to bring up four players from the Memphis roster this coming Friday (Sept. 25) after the Triple-A Season is complete.  Among the names mentioned as possibilities are Royce Ring, Tyler Greene, David Freese, and Allen Craig, along with Matt Pagnozzi (not included in article).  Jaime Garcia is not one of the players (due to recovery from Tommy John surgery) and La Russa also expressed interest in inviting closer Pete Parise to major league spring camp in 2010.  Cardinal Beat

Winter Ball News

 

Amaury Cazana is excited to have former countryman teammate and friend Yadel Marti join him for play with Tigres del Licey of the Dominican League this coming winter season.  According to the article, Cazana was married after the 2009 Caribbean Series, made the choice to play in the Triple-A Mexican League this past summer, and did require surgery after the 2009 season was over.  He has been resting since going under the knife and will look to make another push for the majors in 2010. A couple weeks ago, Jeff Luhnow said Cazana may be one of the players brought into spring camp in 2010.  Tigres del Licey
