The big news is former Chicago Cubs outfielder and slugger Sammy Sosa plans to announce his retirement, possibly after the 2008 World Series: link (front page at this time)

Many memories, for myself and others, go with him.  The summer of 1998 has to be the biggest for any Cardinals and Cubs fan, Mark McGwire and Sosa knocking the ball out of the park got me back into baseball after the strike of 1994.

The other big news is Albert Pujols (St. Louis) going under the knife: link

He has a working contract with Gigantes del Cibao, but was not expected to play this winter.
