2009 St. Louis Cardinals Schedule Announced

Major League Baseball released their 2009 schedules on Wednesday. The Cardinals open at home for the third consecutive season.

In a break from tradition, Major League Baseball has released their 2009 schedules early, albeit with caveats and actual game times to be determined. In the past, word trickled out over the winter, club-by-club, and was often in conflict, so this move is a most positive one.

Cardinals highlights:

- Season starts one week later due to World Baseball Classic

- Open at home for third straight season (Pirates on April 6)

- Seven games in seven days during first homestand

- 10 games against Cubs in first 43 (almost opposite of 2008)

- Interleague play against AL Central:
Kansas City, Detroit, Minnesota (home)
Cleveland and Kansas City (road)
Due to unbalanced divisions, the Cards play an extra road series against the Mets

- All-Star Game at Busch Stadium on July 14

- Late August through end of season
Nine-game homestand
Six-game roadtrip
Nine-game homestand
Nine-game roadtrip
Season ends with three at home against Milwaukee
