The Texas
League Office has announced the 2008 Texas League All-Stars. The
72nd Texas League All-Star Game presented by Great Southern, will take place at
Hammons Field on Wednesday, June 25th. Tickets are still available by
calling (417) 863-2143.
The host
Springfield Cardinals will be represented by seven players, as well as the four
members of the Springfield Coaching Staff.
Springfield has a total of
three starters voted to the North Division squad, as the Texas League’s leading
hitter, outfielder Shane Robinson, will be joined by third baseman Allen Craig
and shortstop Tyler Greene in the starting lineup. Brandon Yarbrough will
be the reserve catcher, while Jon Jay will be a reserve outfielder. Jess Todd, the reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week and reliever Fernando Salas
made the cut as well, and will throw for the North Division.
Springfield
Manager “Pop” Warner, Pitching Coach Bryan Eversgerd, Hitting Coach Derrick May
and Athletic Trainer Jay Pierson make up the North Division Staff, thanks to
Springfield’s
2007 trip to the Texas League Championship Series.
Seven
players from Northwest Arkansas, six players from Tulsa and four from Arkansas, round out the North Division
lineup.
Other
members of the North Division starting lineup include first baseman Kila
Kaaihuer (NWA), second baseman Corey Wimberly (TUL), Catcher Ben Johnson (ARK),
outfielders Dexter Fowler (TUL) and Matt Miller (TUL) and designated hitter Juan Richardson (NWA), a former Springfield Cardinal.
Frisco has
a league-leading eight All-Stars, however two have been promoted to
Triple-A. Corpus Christi has six, while
Midland and San Antonio have five each.
Starting
for the South Division are first baseman Kyle Blanks (SA), second baseman Drew Sutton (CC), shortstop Tommy Manzella (CC), third baseman Jesus Guzman (MID),
Catcher Max Ramirez (FRI), outfielders Ben Harrison (FRI), Chad Huffman (SA) and
Steven Murphy (FRI) and designated hitter Tommy Everidge (MID).
The South
will be led by San Antonio Manager Bill Masse, thanks to the Missions winning
the 2007 Texas League Championship Series. Masse is joined by Missions’
Pitching Coach Steve Webber, Hitting Coach Terry Kennedy, Athletic Trainer Wade
Yamasaki and Strength Coach Andy Stucke.

including information and participants on the Bass Pro Shops Home Run Derby,
which will take place before the game, will be released during the upcoming home
stand at Hammons Field.
