Games Played Wednesday
Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A) - Lost to Albuquerque 6-4
Memphis starter John Wasdin gave up back-to-back home runs in the third inning to seal his fate on Wednesday. One of the homers was hit by former Cardinal farmhand John Gall, a two time Cardinal Minor League Player of the Year. Gall would homer twice off of Wasdin before the day was over. On the day, Wasdin pitched five complete innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits, including four home runs. Cliff Politte followed up with two perfect innings, striking out three. Kelvin Jimenez notched one strikeout in his only inning of work. Jason Motte struck out two and allowed a hit in the ninth.
Third baseman David Freese provided the offense for Memphis. The St. Louis native homered twice, a two run blast in the fifth and a solo shot in the ninth. Colby Rasmus was 0-4 and is now hitting .179. Catcher Mark Johnson singled twice. Josh Phelps went 1-4 and is hitting .189. In 53 at bats, Phelps has yet to draw a walk.
Like we reported this weekend, it was announced during the game that Memphis will have a “bullpen game” on Friday.
Memphis falls to 6-8 and is now in third place in the Pacific Coast League American North.
