Luhnow joined the organization in October of 2003 as the Vice President of Player Development. He was brought in from the business world to oversee the team's development of statistical analysis of players and his role has grown since. Vuch (right) is a career-long Cardinal, having been with the organization since the days of Lou Brock.
First, Luhnow discusses the importance of scouting and what a scout's duties entail. Also, he explains where a newly-signed player may be assigned and where the Cardinals are finding those players. Of note is that the Cardinals have invited players from Korea and Hungary to spring training.
Next, the two present an overview of the Minor League system from Memphis down to the Quad Cities. The two covered the highlights of each team's season as well as the coaching staffs for the upcoming season.
Up first, Memphis and Springfield highlights and coaching staffs.
Highlights of the Palm Beach and Quad Cities as well as the coaching staffs for the short-season teams are next. Luhnow also explains what happens to the players that don't make the full-season teams.
Luhnow takes the lead in the Q and A session with Vuch helping along the way. The questions were sometimes inaudible so the subject is listed below.
The first question is about Antonio De Jesus followed by a question on the scouting of minor league players in other organizations. Then a fan asks about the Cardinals presence in the Far East.
Roster limits for the various Minor League Clubs and they juggle the rosters between levels were posed. Next was a question on winter ball. The third question is on why the Cardinals passed on top pitcher Rick Porcello in the 2007 draft.
As requested by Birdhouse readers, an update on injuries followed by negotiating contracts with high school players follows. The third question is regarding the 2007 draft and Kyle Russell with an interruption by Fredbird.
