La Russa's Coaches All Returning in 2008

Dave Duncan: Paired with La Russa since '83

As expected, the St. Louis Cardinals announced Monday that all members of Tony La Russa's coaching staff are set to return in 2008.

Joining St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa's 2008 staff will again be Pitching Coach Dave Duncan, First Base Coach Dave McKay, Third Base Coach Jose Oquendo, Bullpen Coach Marty Mason, Bench Coach Joe Pettini and Hitting Coach Hal McRae.

Duncan and McKay have been members of La Russa's staff for each of his 12 seasons in St. Louis and have coached for La Russa since 1983 and 1989, respectively. Duncan has served as a major league pitching coach for 28 years, matching Galen Cisco for most all-time in the majors.

Oquendo joined La Russa's staff in 1999 and Mason did so in 2000. Pettini has spent the past six seasons (2002-07) as the team's bench coach and McRae has been the Cardinals hitting coach since 2005.

Prior to this announcement, among the coaches only Duncan was under contract for the 2008 season. La Russa agreed to terms on a new, two-year deal just last week, which is what precipitated this action.
