In
Saturday’s Arizona Fall League action, Jason Motte was the only St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguer to appear for the Mesa Solar Sox. Motte bounced back from his worst outing
of the fall to pitch a perfect inning and pick up his second victory, tying him
for the league lead.
On
Friday, Stuart Pomeranz continued his comeback with three more scoreless
innings. Pomeranz gave up only two
hits and one free pass. He has yet
to allow a run in five Arizona Fall League innings. Jarrett Hoffpauir and Joe Mather both
went 1-for-3 with a walk. Hoffpauir
is now hitting .308 while Mather is hitting .286. Kyle McClellan pitched a perfect inning
and had two strikeouts.
In
Friday’s Mexican League action, Cardinals pitcher Fernando Salas pitched two
scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.
The
Cardinals organization has had an impact for Caribes of the Venezuelan Winter
League. Memphis’ Mike Smith made his debut with three innings of work, allowing one run on two hits
and two walks. His teammate in the
Caribbean, Matt Scherer, picked up his first save with two scoreless innings pitched. Rico Washington has
had a red hot beginning, hitting .360/.429/.440.
