In
Thursday’s AFL action, Mark Hamilton was the only St. Louis Cardinal prospect to
appear. The lefty first baseman was
hitless in three at bats but did draw a walk.
In
Wednesday’s action, Jarrett Hoffpauir returned to the lineup and was credited
with a walk and a run scored in four official at bats. Jason Motte had his worst outing in
Arizona,
allowing three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
For
Obregon of the Mexican League, Memphis’ Hugo Castellanos has pitched two innings over three games and has yet to allow a
run.
Fernando
Salas made his Mexican League debut on Wednesday pitching a scoreless two-thirds
of an inning for Mazatlan.
In
Venezuela,
several Cardinal farmhands are on the Caribes’ roster. Matt Scherer has been roughed up in the
early going. So far in two and a
third innings stretching over three games, the 6’5” right-hander has given up
three runs and four hits. His
Springfield
teammate, Rico Washington, is
hitting .294 with five runs batted in over five games. Neither John Rodriguez, Mike Smith, nor
Cody Haerther have yet made an appearance for the Caribes.
For
Aragua, Jose Martinez is continuing his hot hitting that started at Double A
Springfield. So far in 16 at bats,
the 21 year old Venezuelan is hitting .375/.412/.625. Martinez, a
shortstop for the Cardinals, is getting action at second base as well. His teammate at Springfield and as well
as for Aragua, Juan Lucena, is struggling to stay afloat with a .154 average,
but it is still early.
