Bozied Off to a Rough Start

1B Tagg Bozied started the season with Triple-A Memphis 4-for-11 with a triple, but promptly followed with an 0-for-20 slump, finishing last week with a .129 batting average.

Bozied had also struck out 15 times over his first nine games. The 27-year-old is looking to play his first full season since 2003, having suffered a catastrophic knee injury during the 2004 season while with Portland in the San Diego organization. In 119 games in 2003, he got 450 at-bats, and hit .273 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs

In spring training with the Major League club, Tagg looked pretty good at the plate, hitting .279 for St. Louis with one home run and 12 RBI in 23 games for the Cardinals.

Joined at the hip with super-star Albert Pujols for the first couple of weeks, Bozied played stellar defense at first, not making a single error in 86 innings played and 117 total chances.

Bozied signed with St. Louis as a minor league free agent in November after he batted .256 in 60 games for Triple-A Norfolk in the Mets organization last season.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound first baseman can also play third base and in the outfield and could prove to be a valuable utility player for St. Louis if he can work his way out of this early season slump.
