Top 40 All-Time Cardinals – The Final Tally

Pulling together all the votes on the top 40 St. Louis Cardinals players of all time in one place.

As our Top 40 Cardinals players of all time series draws very near to its close, this article brings together the voting of all four participants from The Birdhouse: Rob Rains, Jerry Modene, Ray Mileur and myself, Brian Walton. To the right of the players’ names are our individual votes. The column second-most from the right in the table below is our aggregate ranking.

In addition, on the far right is a column labeled “Cm”. That is the work-in-progress result of a collaborative effort among a group of very knowledgeable Cardinals fans from our Message Board community. While that group has not yet ranked all 40 players, you can click on this link to see the community ranking as it develops and even join in the voting if you so choose. Their master list is maintained on the first post of the thread.

Not surprisingly, The Birdhouse’s top 40 split was in favor of position players at the expense of pitching, with non-pitchers holding down 28 of our 40 spots. Only two of our top 14 are hurlers.
