Cards Add Rose And Place Mulder On The DL

The Cardinals send starting pitcher Mark Mulder to the DL and add minor league catcher, Mike Rose to the 25 man roster.

The Cardinals placed LHP Mark Mulder (left shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list today and purchased the contract of catcher Mike Rose from Memphis(AAA).

Rose, 30, was batting .262 with 15 HR's & 36 RBI in 82 games at Memphis this season. The switch-hitting catcher was drafted out of Jesuit H.S. (Sacramento, CA) by Houston in 1995 and made his ML debut in 2004 with Oakland. He appeared in 15 games for the LA Dodgers last season, batting .209 with a HR on 10/2 at SD. The 6-1, 225-pound native of northern California had a lifetime .266 BA with 68 HRs & 377 RBI in 923 minor league games prior to this season. He will wear uniform #46.

An MRI exam on Mulder's left shoulder earlier this week showed little difference from the condition that sent him to the disabled list two months ago.

Since his returned to the team on August the 23rd, Mulder surrendered for 14 runs in just 4 2/3 innings. In his last 10 starts dating back to May 12, Mulder has a record of 3-6 with a 9.84 ERA.

It is very unlikely that Mulder will pitch again this season.
