MEMPHIS REDBIRDS PRESS RELEASE

Metairie, LA - Memphis pitcher Adam Wainwright shut down the New Orleans Zephyrs for the second time in as many starts, helping the Redbirds to a 5-1 win Wednesday afternoon in front of 7,725 fans at Zephyr Field in New Orleans, La. Wainwright (2-0) allowed one run on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings just six days after shutting out the same Zephyrs team for 7 1/3 innings, in a 3-1 win.

New Orleans took an early lead on a two-out, first-inning home run by Matt Cepicky, but couldn't get another runner past second base for the remainder of the game.

Tony Armas (0-1) was solid in his second of three scheduled rehab starts for the Zephyrs. The Washington Nationals hurler shut out Memphis for three innings but gave up a two-run homer to Chris Duncan in the fourth.

The Redbirds added insurance runs in the eighth on a leadoff homer by John Nelson and a two-run single by Bo Hart.

Memphis and New Orleans square off in a doubleheader beginning at 7:05 p.m. ET on Thursday in New Orleans.
